STORYTELLING ON THE PLATFORM

A six-week course where participants will explore the company’s signature “platform” style. The course will build towards the creation of original stories performed on the platform. Along the way, participants will learn about masks, pantomime, cartoon mime and ensemble devised theater. The weekly classes will culminate in a final presentation open to the public.
TU’s Artistic Director Marc Frost and several frequent collaborators will lead the course. Both instructors studied with disciples of Jacques Lecoq at various programs around the world and have been teaching physical theater at different levels in the Chicago area over the past several years.

10-WEEK PHYSICAL THEATER INTENSIVE

This fall, we are offering a ten-week intensive where participants will go on a deep exploration of our Lecoq-based devised, physical theater storytelling approach. The course will build towards the creation of an original piece of contemporary devised, physical theater. Along the way, participants will learn about Masks, Physical Imagination Movement Work, Physical Characterization as well as several Ensemble Devised Theater techniques: Platform, Quick-Change and Group Storytelling.
The weekly classes will be divided into two parts. Part 1 will be a 6-week course focused on Physical Theater Training. Then, after a one-week break, Part 2 will be a 4-week session focused on the Creation of an original piece of Physical Theater. Both parts will culminate in a final presentation: Part 1 with an invite-only presentation and Part 2 with a public presentation.
TU’s Artistic Director Marc Frost will lead the course. Marc studied with disciples of Jacques Lecoq at the London International School of Performing Arts and has been teaching physical theater in the Chicago area for the past 8 years. As the founder of TU, he has directed and produced several original devised, physical theater shows and toured them around the country for hundreds and thousands of young audiences. Marc will occasionally be joined by long-time TU company members who will also add their voices to the intensive at key moments.

PHYSICAL APPROACH TO COMEDY

A six-week course where participants will explore a physical approach to comedy. The course will build towards the creation of original comedic scenes performed using modern "masks". Along the way, participants will learn about masks, pantomime, modern approaches to masked characters, comedic archetypes and ensemble devised theater. The weekly classes will culminate in a final presentation open to the public.
